Reclaimed Imperial Bricks
Locally sourced, reclaimed bricks salvaged from old buildings. Fired in older kilns to traditional Imperial sizes, each brick has it’s own subtle variations in colour texture and size. Creating warmth and character, earthy colours which sit naturally in the garden landscape.
Great for Growing
Nothing beats the taste of fresh fruit and veg! The Raised beds shown were built by me in my garden, wanting to introduce our little one to growing and provide a meaningful supply of fresh food. Cut and come again crops like lettuce, strawberries and fast growing summer crops like radish, spring onion and courgette are great choices for high yields and fast growth.
The Crop Cage shown makes a great addition to the bed, protecting against birds and pests with an elegant classical style.
The cage is not my product and can either be bought separately from Agriframes or supplied and installed.
We decided to build our raised beds as we wanted to teach our son where food comes from and how to grow it. The Raised Bed provides the perfect height for him to help plant, weed and water without the risk of him trampling and destroying!
As we thought more about the quality, price and source of the food we eat we realised raised beds are more than a learning tool for our little one.
We have two in our garden, one filled with 20 strawberry plants and the other with lettuce, spinach, chard, spring onions and other salad leaves. We also plan to build a third for courgettes, beetroot and more strawberries!
Raised beds make growing easier for everyone, less bending down, good drainage and an added feel good factor from seeing beautiful authentic brick beds safely harbouring your precious food!
As a Bricklayer with over 15 years experience I choose to use Reclaimed Imperial Bricks for my beds as they offer character and natural colours modern bricks cannot replicate.
I designed the size of this bed with a few things in mind.
Firstly drainage, although only 5 or 6 course high a concrete footing is required to ensure any ground movements over time will not damage the brickwork. The bed is large enough to ensure most of the inside area is left soil, smaller beds result in more concrete inside and less soil as the walls will be closer together. However with my bed water will quickly drain through the top layers of soil and then drain naturally into the ground.
Secondly, I wanted to ensure I could protect my crops from birds, cats, pests and even my child when he decides picking every flower on a strawberry plant is a good idea. This is when I discovered the Agriframe Crop Cage.
We love the classical, elegant style and practical functionality it provides. So I tailored the measurements to ensure the Cage fits snuggly into the Bed.
Dimensions are 1440mmx1440mm outside to outside brickwork in all directions as it is a perfect square.
Beds are priced at £750 without Crop Cage or £850 included and installed in and around Suffolk.
Price does not include the disposal of soil from the footing. I would advise using the soil to fill or partially fill the beds or use elsewhere in garden to avoid the cost and environmental impact or removing the soil from your property. However if you wish I can remove soil via a grab bag for an £200.
Price is for the size of bed shown in images measuring 1220mm inside to inside on all sides 1440mm outside to outside. This has been designed to fit the 1.2metre crop cage.
Price includes work as follows.
Setting out, digging and pouring of concrete footing.
Building of 5/6 course Raised Garden Brick Bed. (final height your choice)
Payment on completion.
Multiple beds can be built to your preferred spacing.
As seen in the images I have surrounded my beds with alpine stones and paving. This is not included in the price. I am happy to quote for similar surroundings styled to your taste.
